Track work hours and pay in one place

Tracking hours answers “how long did I work?” Tracking pay answers the question you actually care about: “what should my paycheck say?” Doing both in one place means every shift you log is already a dollar figure. Here is how that works, and how Shiftly does it on iPhone.

From a shift to a number

Every pay estimate comes from the same four pieces:

  • Hours worked: end time minus start time, minus unpaid breaks.
  • Hourly rate: per job, since a second job usually pays differently.
  • Extras: tips, and overtime hours paid at a higher rate.
  • The period: a week, two weeks, or a month, matching how you are paid.

Worked example: a 6-hour evening shift with a 30-minute unpaid break at $16/hour is 5.5 × 16 = $88. Add $40 in tips and the shift is worth $128 gross. Five of those in a week is $640. That is the figure to compare with your pay stub, before taxes come off.

How Shiftly tracks hours and pay together

  • Clock in with one tap. The shift runs live and the estimated earnings update as the minutes tick by.
  • Add breaks during the shift (more than one if needed) and they are subtracted automatically.
  • Record tips and any manual overtime on the shift before you close it.
  • Each job has its own hourly rate, currency, and color, so a bar shift and a retail shift never get mixed up.
  • Open Insights to see hours, wages, overtime, tips, and total earnings for any period, with every shift record behind the numbers.

With Shiftly Pro, overtime can be calculated automatically from rules you configure, shifts that repeat every week can be set up once as a recurring schedule, and completed shifts can be exported to PDF, CSV, or Excel.

Checking a pay stub

When payday arrives, compare three things: total hours, overtime hours, and tips. Most discrepancies come from a break that wasn't subtracted the same way, rounding of clock times, or a shift that was recorded against the wrong day. Having your own record with exact times makes that conversation with a manager short and factual.

Prefer to do the math yourself?

The free work hours calculator gives you hours for one shift, and the paycheck calculator turns hours and overtime into gross pay. Neither saves anything; they are there for a quick check.

Frequently asked questions

How does Shiftly estimate my pay?

Each job has an hourly rate. Shiftly multiplies the hours on a shift (after breaks) by that rate, adds any tips and overtime you record, and shows the total. Estimated earnings update live while a shift is running.

Is the estimate my take-home pay?

No. It is gross earnings before taxes and deductions. Your pay stub will show a lower net amount.

Can I track pay in a currency other than US dollars?

Yes. Each job has its own currency setting, so two jobs can even use different currencies.

Can I get my hours out of the app?

Shiftly Pro exports completed shifts as PDF, CSV, or Excel for payroll, invoices, or your own records.
